3rd Annual Disability Awareness Night
CHARLOTTE – Hinrichs Flanagan Financial (www.hinrichsflanagan.com), a Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) General Agency is teaming up with Ryan Platt , Exceptional Parent magazine and the Charlotte Knights to present the Third Annual Disability Awareness Night. The event will take place at Knights Stadium on Thursday, July 19 when the Charlotte Knights meet the Buffalo Bisons at 7:15 p.m. For this event, nearly 500 game tickets will be donated to local disability organizations including Easter Seals, ARC, RSS, Brain Injury Association of North Carolina and others, on behalf of Hinrichs Flanagan Financial.
The event will pay tribute to the contributions of 50 million* Americans with disabilities, their families and caregivers. At a pre-game ceremony at home plate, Hinrichs Flanagan Financial and Exceptional Parent will present the EP Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award to select honorees. This honor is given to those individuals that have donated their time, energy and effort to the disabilities community. Past award winners include Special Olympic “Hero” and Camp Soar founder, Bob Bowler . Following the ceremony, David Belinkie of Hinrichs Flanagan Financial will sing the “National Anthem.”
The award is named after the founder and former editor-in-chief of Exceptional Parent who was an advocate for people with special needs and who passed away in 2000. Exceptional Parent is this nation’s oldest and most widely referred to publication of its kind, reaching a vast audience of physicians, nurses, therapists, teachers and families involved in the care and development of children and adults with disabilities and special health care needs.
Disability Awareness Night began in the summer of 2002 when Exceptional Parent magazine combined forces with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox to create the first event of its kind. Last season, close to 40 similar events were held in major and minor league ballparks across the country.
